Hani Abramson is a Jewish Studies student at McGill University, and a proudly Jewish activist.
Hani has used her platform and her voice to advocate for justice for oppressed peoples, as well as strengthening Jewish community. Upon entering university, Hani has sought for ways to bridge gaps between Jewish students and leftist activism. After joining Independent Jewish Voices McGill, she began to work with the organisation to create alternative Jewish community and to stand up for Palestinian rights on campus. She has since organised a variety of campaigns and has worked on connecting American and Canadian Jewish students, encouraging Independent Jewish Voices and Jewish Voice for Peace to team up on the Return the Birthright Campaign.
Hani also is involved with Jewish life on campus. Most recently, she was a member of the Student Society of McGill University’s special committee on anti-Semitism which consisted of representatives from Jewish student groups to discuss anti-Semitism and combatting it on McGill’s campus. In her capacity as a representative of IJV McGill, she acted as a founding member of the Coalition of Jewish Students at McGill.
In the summer of 2018, Hani will go on to work as an education intern at the Galicia Jewish Museum in Krakow, to explore Polish-Jewish history and preservation of Holocaust Memory in Poland. She will return to McGill in Montreal to complete her honours degree in Jewish Studies.
