David Klein is a co-founder and a member of the Organizing Collective of the U.S. Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel. He is a mathematical physicist and professor of mathematics at CSU Northridge, where he is also director of the Climate Science Program, a NASA funded educational program. He earned his Ph.d. from Cornell University and has held teaching and research positions at Louisiana State University, UCLA, USC, and was a Guest Scholar at National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan. He served from 1999 – 2000 as Mathematics Content Director for the Los Angeles County Office of Education and was a member of a Content Review Panel for the California State Board of Education.
Klein has served as faculty advisor for activist student groups including Students for Justice in Palestine, CSUN Greens, CSUN One Struggle, and Students Against War. Prior to the US invasion of Iraq, he wrote a tract for student activists entitled, “Mechanisms of Western Domination: A Short History of Iraq and Kuwait” available on his CSUN webpage.
A longtime activist, Klein has organized community members to confront the Ku Klux Klan in rural Louisiana; transported textbooks and medical supplies to Nicaragua during the Sandinista period; assisted torture victims of Salvadoran death squads en route to Canada. Working with a group of Quakers in the 1980s, he was arrested for the nonviolent occupation of a US Senator’s office to protest aid to the Nicaraguan Contras, a terrorist group. He is active in the organization, “System Change Not Climate Change,” and is the author of the eBook, “Capitalism and Climate Change: The Science and Politics of Global Warming.”
